Week-long Family Programs

Located in California’s beautiful Sequoia National Forest, our Bearskin Meadow campus has provided an exceptional camp experience for kids & families with type 1 diabetes for over 60 years.

Family Camp is a week of recreational activities and diabetes education for children and teens (0-17) with T1D and their family members.

Family Camp 1 – July 13-18 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for all ages

Family Camp 2 – July 20-25 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for all ages

Summer Camps

CDLN is located in the Santa Cruz Mountains and offers all the summer camp fun, closer to the San Francisco Bay Area.

July 29-August 2 at Loma Mar for ages 7-17

Kids Camp offers a safe, comfortable, and fun away-from-home experience for kids with T1D. Enjoy classic camp experiences such as swimming, archery, arts & crafts, games, dances, campfires and more…with a side of diabetes education!

June 29-July 3- at Bearskin Meadow Camp for ages 7-13

Buddy Camp is a unique program built for kids who want to share the diabetes camp experience with a buddy or sibling that does not have T1D.

June 23-27 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for ages 7-15

Teen Camp is designed to support the lifestyle and social interests of high-school aged teenagers living with type 1 diabetes. Teens will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities and engage in new experiences together with friends.

July 6-11 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for ages 14-17

Leaders in Training programs are for older teens with or without diabetes who are ready to take the next step in developing their leadership skills.

LIT 1 – July 13-25 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for ages 16-17

LIT 2 – June 18-27 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for age 17


Adventure Programs 

Our adventure programs in California’s High Sierra wilderness take you further into the outdoors and empower you to take the next step in your diabetes self-management journey.

*Program dates and exact locations for adventure programs are subject to change based on permits.

The Teen Backpacking Program is a backpacking adventure for teens who love or want to learn how to backpack while managing their diabetes. This program is for those who want to push themselves and accomplish something challenging while building community.

June 27-July 3* in the High Sierra Wilderness for ages 13-15.

2025 sees the return of DYF’s Adventure Programs Flagship: Altitude 14,505!

The Altitude 14,505 Program is an intense expedition backpacking trip spanning approximately two weeks, where teens living with T1D will journey ~70 miles through the High Sierra wilderness with the goal of summiting the tallest mountain in the contiguous United States: Mt. Whitney. 

July 9-23* in the High Sierra Wilderness for ages 15-17.

Family Camping is a weekend of camping and hiking in a beautiful location close to the bay area!

May 24-26* for families with a kid or teen with type one.

DYF Community Whitewater Rafting Trip: All DYF community members, past, present and future, are invited to join us in this fun weekend of camping and whitewater rafting!

August 29-31 in Lotus, CA for ages 10 and up.


Seasonal Weekend Retreats

Held in various locations including the Bay Area, participants will build community as they enjoy numerous camp activities and learn about the latest in diabetes management from our team of health-care professionals.

Our Family Retreat weekends are located in the Bay Area and they are the perfect opportunity to experience a dose of Family Camp closer to home.

Spring Family Retreat – March 14-16 at Mt. Gilead, Sebastopol for all ages.

Fall Family Retreat – Oct 17-19 at Camp Jones Gulch, La Honda for all ages.

Adult Retreat – July 25-27 at Bearskin Meadow Camp for ages 18+

Join us for a weekend of community, connection and continuing Type 1 diabetes education for adults with T1D and their Support Crew. Experience the first of its kind – a unique blend of adventure, community, and diabetes-focused education amidst the serene backdrop of nature.
