Become a kid’s hero at camp

Volunteer Opportunities

As a non-profit organization, DYF relies on support from our volunteer community to provide essential support! We greatly value and appreciate individuals and groups who are able to donate their time to help us fulfill our mission to improve the quality of life for children, teens and families affected by diabetes.

Year Round Weekend Retreats:

  • Campamento Familiar: February 10-12 in Livermore
  • Spring Retreat: March 17-19 in Sebastopol
  • Camp T1D Kids: September 15-17 in Livermore
  • Fall Retreat: October 20-21 in La Honda

We are always looking for volunteer camp counselors and activity leaders for our year round weekend retreats! These events are fun and provide a quick dose of camp magic throughout the year. Housing and meals are provided. If you are interested please fill out the volunteer application or reach out to Whitney at

  • TypeOneNation Summit: March 25th at Bishop Ranch in San Ramon

We will need volunteers for the day camp program.  We anticipate that 60 kids will be joining us for the day and are in need of volunteers to escort kids to activities, assist with diabetes management, and bring a great attitude to your kids’ group. If you know of any one (nursing students, people who are good with kids, sororities or fraternities, clubs, etc) who might be interested, please share our website with them. Spread the word any way you wish.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Julia at

Bearskin Meadow Camp:

  • Work Weekend: May 26-29 in Sequoia National Forest

Every Memorial Day weekend, we gather to get camp ready for the summer! While everyone is welcome, this event is focused around service work and not designed for young children; we will not have recreation programs or staff dedicated to childcare. There will be equipment and machinery on site, and conditions may be (extra) dusty and dirty. Come ready to work hard and have a lot of fun with a great group of volunteers – meals and lodging are on us!
