Together We Can

Dear friends,

Together, we can — and we did! Through all the challenges that the pandemic brought, the resiliency of the DYF community shone through. After a year of virtual programs, we resumed in-person programming in 2021 and were able to:

    • welcome 336 campers to Bearskin Meadow Camp;
    • host 12 camp sessions with 0 incidents of COVID-19;
    • modify programs to provide a safe environment while keeping all the fun of camp alive;
    • provide scholarships to 26% of campers and subsidies to 33% of campers, ensuring that finances were not a barrier to attending camp;
    • launch 2 new backpacking programs, offering unique, confidence-building experiences for campers.

As you can see from the enclosure accompanying this letter, our backpacking programs created incredible memories and opportunities for campers to challenge themselves, proving anything is possible with diabetes. This is the core of DYF’s mission and our commitment to the T1D community.

We are just getting started! DYF has big plans for 2022. We will resume popular programs like Camp de los Ninos, Family Camp, and the Adult Retreat. New programs are also in the works, including Family Camp Flipped for adults with T1D, two new adventure programs, and community-based meetup support programs. DYF is expanding our reach and offering a variety of experiences to meet the needs of the T1D community.

There is so much we want to accomplish in this next year. Growth requires resources and support — and there is no more supportive community than ours. Just like the camper who learns to change an infusion set from a healthcare volunteer, the backpacker receiving encouragement from their peers when the trail gets rough, or the sleepless parent searching the Brave Buddies online support group after a midnight low, this is our opportunity to hold each other up and lift ourselves to a whole new level.

We need your support to reach the next peak in DYF’s journey and further our impact. You can provide the programs that change the lives of those living with type 1 diabetes. You can show our campers that, with the support of their T1D community, their potential is limitless. By standing together with DYF TODAY, there will be no bounds to how far we all can go.

Thank you for your generosity.
