Dear DYF Community,
First and foremost, please know that nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of our community. It is with a heavy heart that we share with you that DYF has made the difficult decision to cancel all in-person 2020 summer camp programs. We are profoundly disappointed as we were greatly looking forward to our 83rd summer of diabetes camp.
Why we came to this decision:
The ever changing climate of uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic has challenged DYF to re-evaluate and restructure our 2020 summer plans. This was an incredibly difficult decision for us to make; nothing brings us more joy than welcoming a bus full of campers for a session of laughter, diabetes pride, and camp firsts. Though it is disappointing that we cannot gather together at camp, we know this is necessary to ensure the health and safety of our participants and allow DYF to continue to thrive as an organization long after this global crisis has passed.
What this decision means for you:
Rest assured that DYF will hold firm to our mission to support families affected by diabetes. This challenge is an opportunity to deepen meaningful relationships, to hold tight to our community, and try new things. We will continue to foster community through new and innovative ways outside of resident camps. Information about alternative spring and summer camp options will be shared as it becomes available in the coming weeks. Please note that as of now, our fall programs remain unchanged.
We can do hard things together!
We know that the magic of camp cannot be replaced by virtual means. We also know our community is well versed in resiliency and adaptation. Our community is the backbone of DYF and we will continue to support you no matter the circumstances or method of delivery. Remember, “no one is an island, no one stands alone”; while there may be challenges ahead, we are hopeful that we will all remain engaged, open, and supportive of one another until we can all gather around the campfire once again.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The DYF Team
